St. Louis Pest Control – Moles

My yard is infested with  moles!  This is what most people think when they first notice all the damage  that has been done.  Sometimes, you can go to bed with a picture perfect lawn only to wake up to a nightmare.  One mole can cause enough damage for anyone to think that there must be a colony at work.  At Blue Chip Pest Services we get this question a lot.  However, there has been enough research and studies on moles for us to know that moles are extremely territorial  and do not work together.  In fact, they don’t even share ones tunnels.

Anyone who has had to battle a Mole in St. Louis  knows the damage these little animals can do to your lawn and planter bed.  With Spring right around the corner, moles will start to forage closer to the surface of your yard in search of there favorite food, a tasty earthworm.

Now that we know the moles favorite food is worms why can’t we just get rid of all the worms in our yards?  There are several reasons why you don’t  want to rid your yard of worms.  Having worms means you have a healthy lawn, they help aerate the soil so that plants can have a new path for their roots to grow.  The second reasons why you don’t want to rid all of your worms, it would be almost impossible to accomplish and be more costly than just trapping or poisoning the few moles you may get each year.

At Blue Chip Pest Services, we have a mole service program that eliminates moles through the use of mechanical traps or using mole baits in extreme cases.  The mechanical trap that we use is buried half the way into the ground so that the clamping device that actually traps the mole is below the surface.  This helps prevent other non targeted animals from be able to trip the trap by accident.  The mole baits are also used in the same manner, buried below the surface.
